The check wallet light on my Maserati Gran Turismo came on last night. I immediately checked and the gas cap was in fact entirely off, which made me happy. That didn't fix the light in some light driving (which made me sad). But tonight, when I checked it one more time - the light was off. Drove about 20 miles to make sure, and it seemed to stay off. Hooray!

Typically I have noticed that you need a few driving cycles before the CEL clears after a gas cap — not just one restart and a little driving. In my old Audi A4, sometimes it would take a day or two. Glad it was nothing serious!!

Thats good. Do you have a local Trident dealer near by for service?

My friendly local F/M mechanic told me it was generally 4 driving cycles that involve a cool-down. But you can never tell when you are "cool" unless the car is off for hours. Who knows whether that is correct?

Hmmm...You seem to be the only Maserati driver on Oppo. Tell me, how is it?

Cars are too computerized these days. Thats why I hate all cars made after 1982 to at least some degree

A check engine light on a Maserati... I bet that was a fun couple of minutes before you realized it was just the gas cap!

"Check Wallet Light" is actually the term in the manual. Ask Doug - I'm sure his car is the same.

Great, the best gentleman's GT express I've ever driven. I tried the 612 but preferred the GT. It's fast but not a track attack car, if that's what you're looking for, but the inside and outside are incredible.

Even a Maserati's check engine light should be able to be reset with any number of cheapie OBD2 bluetooth dongles and a smartphone. I have this one —cost me 8 bucks.

Let me go on record as saying, for better or worse, Maserati have the best exhaust note of anything on the road now.

That's good at least. I am aspiring to own a Maserati sometime be it a camboricorsa or a Gran Turismo. Which one would you recomend?

I guess the light stays on until you spend X amount of dollars. Just the thought of it...

Hmm, you may persuade me from maintaining my current notions about Maserati. Do please, tell me more about the interior quality. (o_o)

I saw a Ghibli today while walking out of school. That exhaust note echoing across the skyscrapers... It was superbly glorious

Who is this and why do you have a Maserati and why don't we hear about it more?

You should get a OBD2 Bluetooth reader and a cheap used nexus 7.

It depends how the manufacture setup the monitor. Usually the evap leak monitor (gas cap) is looking for a certain pressure differential between the evap system and atmospheric pressure after shutdown, then you factor in a certain leakage rate. For this monitor it wouldn't be necessary to complete a full cool down. I'd guess under 1 hour.

In this case I corrected the problem in the evening of one day, and it didn't correct until the next day. I am going to blame the same gremlins that sometimes think the passenger seat heater is on when it is not.

It's telling you they need to check the points.
